I rediscovered clay when my partner Daniel was in Japan in the Fall of 2002. To occupy my mind and time during his absence, I took a hand building class at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia. I had not worked with clay for a very long time, and as my passion for clay grew, I began to spend many hours working in the studio. I loved it, and that love has only grown over the years.
In the spring 2003, Bill Scott curated a show at the Wayne Art Center and saw one of my plates at my home. He chose this plate for inclusion in his show and the plate was sold before I even arrived at the opening. I was a selling-out clay artist overnight! |

I had a show in New York in 2003 and was included in “The Clay Studio: Thirty Year of Excellence” Spring of 2005. Now I am on my way and looking forward to my next exhibition.
All the pots I have made lately are grouped in series, 3 to 6 pots in each group. I start by making tiles with patterns which I press into my paper clay slabs giving the slabs both relief and pattern. I then build my pots from a central core, like a body, adding elements to give the pot character and form”. I mix my glazes myself -- orange and blue and yellow and green, bright and colorful. In the kiln, the pots become alive, dancing and whispering to one another. |
